New Jersey divorcee Wanda Gonzalez wanted some extra money to help make ends meet. She was alone, and raising her two sons, aged seven and fourteen. So she rented a room in her house to a twenty-something illegal alien from Mexico, Richard Toledo Gonzalez (no relation).
On the night of Thursday, January 19, 2006 he bludgeoned her two young sons to death with a claw hammer, put plastic bags over their mangled heads, and dumped their bodies in the cellar of their home. He tied up his landlady and drove her to her bank, where he forced her to make a cash withdrawal.
With his abducted victim in the car, he attempted to escape via the Garden State Parkway. The captive woman managed to attract the attention of gas station attendants at the Monmouth rest stop. A massive police manhunt ensued, complete with canine units and helicopters. At 4 AM the killer was apprehended behind the restaurant at the rest stop.
Fast forward. Yesterday, two attorneys for the killer filed motions to supress his statements to police, in an effort to avoid the death penalty.
TOMS RIVER — Attorneys for an illegal immigrant accused of bludgeoning two Stafford boys to death last year filed motions today seeking to suppress statements he made to police and bar the state from seeking the death penalty against him.
Attorneys Michael Priarone and Cathy Waldor filed the motions in Superior Court in Ocean County on behalf of Richard Toledo, 22, of Stafford, who is accused of killing Karlo Gonzalez, 14, and his brother, Zabdiel Gonzalez, 7, with a claw hammer in their Stafford home on Jan. 19, 2006.
An Ocean County grand jury last year returned an indictment finding aggravating factors allowing the state to seek the death penalty against Toledo, an illegal immigrant who was a boarder in the Gonzalez’s home….
One can imagine the terror experienced by the two children as they felt the hammer blows raining down on them, before they mercifully lost consciousness. This monster is a poster boy for the death penalty.
He should not have been in this country in the first place. He was, by definition, a criminal as soon as he violated our sovereign borders. And the moral of the story is — American landlords should not rent to criminal illegal aliens.
