The dreaded “Senate Comprehensive Immigration Bill,” also known as the Amnesty Bill, went down in flames on the Senate floor today. (Read the whole story here.)
So, let’s break out the champagne and savor the moment.
And then, after we celebrate, let’s remember that we have won an important battle but we have not yet won the war. Our borders are not yet secured and our immigration laws are not yet enforced.
After we’ve had our champagne and our victory party, let’s dedicate ourselves anew to the task ahead of us. It is an arduous one and there will be turns in the road and setbacks ahead. But, keep in mind one thing. The shenanigans of President Bush, Lindsey Graham, John McCain, Ted Kennedy and the rest of the pro-amnesty crowd have only accomplished one thing. They have awakened a sleeping giant: the American people.
I never lost faith that we would win our victory in the Senate. Likewise, I have complete faith in the eventual victory of our cause. However long it takes, be confident that at the end of our struggle to preserve our nation, the day will come when we can look back with pride in our accomplishment and joyful satisfaction that we are able to pass our beautiful country, the United States of America, onto our children and grandchildren.
