Outrage

June 20th, 2007

Last Friday, President Bush spoke to those attending the Hispanic Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC. He advocated that Hispanics bombard the Senate with messages in favor of the revived immigration bill. The details are given in an article in the Washington Times:

Bush urges Hispanics to speak up
By Stephen Dinan

President Bush … told Hispanics to step into the middle of the immigration debate and make sure senators who have been bombarded with calls from opponents also hear from those who support the bill.

“There’s a lot of emotion on this issue, and it makes sense to have people from around the country come and sit down with members of Congress to talk rationally about the issue,” he told those attending the Hispanic Prayer Breakfast in Washington yesterday.

He was speaking a day after the bill, which collapsed last week, was revived by the top Democrat and Republican in the Senate.

Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, agreed to put the bill back on the Senate’s schedule next week, and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, agreed to limit the number of amendments Republicans would offer….

There is just one problem with this disingenuous pseudo-fairness. The barrage of letters, faxes, and phone calls opposing the bill is coming from American citizens — taxpayers who elected our Senators to provide service to us and who pay their salaries. In other words, they work for us and we have a right to tell them what we want them to do.

The support for the bill is largely coming from illegal aliens who are in our country unlawfully, and who have no right to take a part in the debate. Moreover, not only have they not contributed to the Senators’ salaries, but also they are freeloading on the taxpayers who do pay the freight in the form of public assistance, free schooling, health services, etc. To quote one irate American citizen:

Well, Mr. President, WE are the US citizens who pay for the salaries of the Senators and have an ABSOLUTE right to talk with them. Those who are here ILLEGALLY and are NOT CITIZENS of this country have NO LEGAL right to make ANY political decisions in America, Mr. President! Can you tell me, Mr. President, why in God’s name are we making ANY deals at all with those who have knowingly broke countless US laws? US citizens would be jailed for doing the SAME crimes (like tax evasion, document fraud, ID theft, tresspassing, welfare fraud, money laundering, transfer of US UNTAXED dollars OUT of the Country to a foreign Country). ~~~ GRG
