Don’t Sit Back Now

June 8th, 2007

by Mary Chamberlain at ADMC

I took a deep breath last night, Thursday, June 7, 2007.

After 4 days of non-stop phone calls to Senators and many “WE WON” emails from immigration groups, it was tempting to sit back and gloat. After a night’s sleep reality set in and my common sense tells me that those who have “temporarily” lost the immigration battle will not stop.

  • Latino “PRO-AMNESTY” groups,
  • the Chamber of Commerce,
  • big business interests and
  • our SELL-OUT-THE-AMERICAN-PEOPLE POLITICIANS — at all levels of government

will not let this go. So those of us who have fought so hard against this particularly nasty piece of legislation must look to more hard work and more ways to make ourselves heard.

A push for BORDER ENFORCEMENT AND EMPLOYER ACCOUNTABILITY must start immediately.

It would be a shame if the concerted efforts of Americans who joined together to fight S.1348 stopped here. WE MUST MOVE TO THE NEXT STEPS TO SAVE OUR COUNTRY.

We have this from Roy Beck of NumbersUSA:

The Senate amnesty bill got only 45 of the needed 60 votes that would have broken the filibuster and allowed a final vote for passage. Because of the 45-50 vote, the bill may be dead for the year….

VICTORY IS SWEET, FRIENDS!

And it may be sweetest when you know that you were an important part of the cause….

…many Senators in their speeches mentioned the overwhelming unpopularity of S. 1348 as their offices were flooded with phone calls and faxes….

Nearly every opponent of amnesty on the Hill has assumed that after a hard-fought fight, the Senate would pass an amnesty again this year and then we would hope to stop it in the House of Representatives. Stopping it in the Senate has to be seen as something of a political miracle….

…tens of thousands of phone calls the last two weeks have created a firestorm that the majority of Senators simply didn’t want to face.
