Assessing the Damage

May 22nd, 2007

Despite all our best efforts, the Kennedy/Bush/Kyle Amnesty for illegal aliens (S. 1348) has been brought to the Senate floor for debate. We lost the battle to keep it from ever getting that far Monday evening in a Senate vote that split 69-23. For the next two weeks, the debate over the individual components of the bill will rage on the Senate floor. We must continue to fight for future milestones — the vote on the bill itself in the Senate and the vote in the House.

Meanwhile, we want all of our readers to have the list of “good guys” — you know, the ones wearing the white hats. It would be nice if you have the time to call their offices and leave a word of thanks.

Senators Who Voted Against Bringing Amnesty to the Senate Floor

Sessions (R-AL)
Shelby (R-AL)
Allard (R-CO)
Crapo (R-ID)
Roberts (R-KS)
Bunning (R-KY)

Geraldo Rivera and Bill O’Reilly were debating illegal immigration recently on O’Reilly’s TV program. Rivera was his implication that O’Reilly’s position was racist and xenophobic (hardly original). On the demographic impact of the addition of 12-20 million Hispanics to the voter rolls, Rivera accused O’Reilly of being fearful of the cultiral shift that would result to American society within a generation or two. Then Rivera asked the question, “Would it be such a bad thing if this country was dominated by more people who look like me that by people who look like you?”

An interesting question. I would submit that, given the history of hispanic cultures to provide economic opportunity, prosperity and liberty to their people, the short answer is, YES! It would be a VERY bad thing!
