On a conference call John McCain attempted to defend the indefensible. First up he takes a swipe at Romney who has been swinging for the fences off McCain’s deep dark chocolatey stupidity…
“Maybe I should wait a couple weeks and see if it changes,” Mr. McCain said of Mr. Romney’s position on immigration this week. “Maybe he can get out his small varmint gun and drive those Guatemalans off his yard.”
The sad part? I think he actually thought that was funny.
True to form, when he finds himself in a hole Mr. McCain takes action, and just keeps digging…
Later on in the call (still on immigration — almost the whole call was on immigration), Mr. McCain said that “For Republicans, we need to be cognizant of the” need to be “humane” on this issue. He also made the explicitly political case for the GOP getting behind immigration reform: “The Hispanic vote is turning against us in very large numbers. … It’s just something we have to do as a nation, but as a Republican I think it’s important that we get this resolved.”He also added: “There are some in the Evangelical community [such as Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention] who see this as a humanitarian issue as well.”
Let’s break out his two main points for further ridicule, shall we?
1.) “The Hispanic vote is turning against us in very large numbers. … It’s just something we have to do as a nation, but as a Republican I think it’s important that we get this resolved.”
So, by allowing in an enormous number of people who appear incapable of appreciating the rule of law, the obvious response, John, is to further erode the rule of law so you can get votes? Can’t imagine why your having a hard time selling that one.
2.) “For Republicans, we need to be cognizant of the” need to be “humane” on this issue.” and “There are some in the Evangelical community [such as Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention] who see this as a humanitarian issue as well.”
Let’s take a moment and consider what he’s actually saying here. So, the humane solution is to allow anyone who is poor to come here in contravention of our law? May I remind the “good” Senator that there are several billion people who are poor across this planet? Are they all invited? Is there EVER a point that’s too much? How many people can the United States absorb and still be the United States?
The problem with the humanitarian argument is that it actually works in the opposite direction from the way these folks seem to think it does. By allowing uncontrolled mass immigration all we do accomplish to make things worse for everybody except those who contribute massive amounts of money to the campaign chests of certain Senators, ahem.
And let’s not forget that most “religious” organizations profit off mass immigration whether legal or illegal. Which makes it extra nasty for them to try to pass this off as a purely altruistic endeavor when they themselves are profiting, no?
Ladies and gentlemen, your future president…John “The Crusher” McCain…
